About the Riga Self Defene School and the trainer

Riga Self Defence School was founded in the early spring of the year 2011. The founder  of the Riga Self Defence Shool is Ingmārs Vārpiņš (Ingmars Varpinsh)- and he is also the trainer (sensei).  He is practicing martial arts since year 1986 (karate, judo, kendo, taidzi, Oldslavian fighting style KOLO and, naturally- Ju-jitsu). After practicing martial arts with the well known latvian master Alexander Osnach (Aleksands Osnačs) he successfully passed the black belt examination- now he is the 1th DAN in Ju-jitsu.

About the classes

We offer you a self defence classes, mostly based on the technique of Ju-jitsu. Additional information about this fighting style (Ju-jitsu) you can find here in this home page (step by step we are translating all the most important aticles in this page also in English but we are sorry if a few of the information in this home page still have no translation in English). Shortky to these who don`t know what Ju-jitsu is, I can explain that this is one of the most effective martial arts ever- it is widely practiced in Security, by police, body guards, Special squads etc.

We are practicing easy, and learning the technique step-by-step, so the classes are suitable also for beginners. The training groups are wery small so the trainer can pay the attention to the every single student. But in our trainings we also don`t forget that in real life things can be different so we also simulate a different ''real life'' situations- e.g. self defence against several enemies, self defence against armed enemy etc. We are also doing a lot`s of fitness exercies for improving our skills. The trainer- Ingmārs Vārpiņš speaks fluent Latvian, English and Russian  (if necessary).

How to apply to the Self defence classes

Applying for the Self Defence Classes is very easy. Actually You can come without applying to the first free  (tutorial) practice. The first tutorial lesson is free for everyone. The Classes are held in Augusta Deglava street 69-D, GYM ''Active Life" (dressroom No.5), enterance by the side door, the classes are held on wednesdays and fridays at 8:00 till (aprox.) 09:45 in the morning. You just have to take the sports costume with you.
